Happy Halloween!
We had a Halloween party here at the boatyard.
Bridgette and Ray and Bob and Molly decorated the pavilion like a haunted house. It was great!
We had music and dinner and drinks!
We have been hard at work... Lots of things going on, right now we have our mast temporarily supported by our toerail and a halyard to two cleats on the rear. We pulled our chainplates for inspection and found some fairly significant crevice corrosion so we are having new ones made. Our three priorities are: keep the mast pointing up, Keep the steering, and keep the beer cold!
Lots of projects. Kristen is finishing the teak and it looks great! We are using light teak Cetol with Clear gloss over the top. Lots of wood on this boat. No teak decks or anything though...
I tore out the turbo a few days ago. Replaced the
bilge hoses today, a few wood repairs and
rebunging. We should have the chainplates back
soon and we will reinstall those and have the rig
solid again. By the way, the chainplates are the
stainless steel straps that hold the cables that
holds the mast up. We still have to replace the
turbo and reupholster. We also have some
rigging to do. I have been talking to Mark, the
rigger here at Sailcraft about some things... We
need to get a new gooseneck with reefing claws
We are also going to make up a new vang as the
boat doesn't have one. I think we are going to
lead this to the cockpit. We also found a whole
coil of stay-set we are going to use as a main
halyard. We are also going to get a stainless shackle for an anchor snubber off the Bob-stay
plate. This will lower the anchor rode to the
waterline and act as a shock absorber. Pretty
cool sounding, but basically I have been crawling
around in really confined spaces replacing dirty
and greasy hoses and stinky toilets... We are
both learning a lot. We have gotten most of our
list of "to do" things from the survey done which
feels good!
Skippy is popular at the marina, though he just
walked up and attacked a big German Shepherd
the other day. All in a days work...
The thing about living on a boat and being in the boat yard
is that even with our fresh new Raritan PHII Compact toilet
installed and waiting, when we wake up in the night to pee, the toilet is down a 12 foot ladder, across the parking lot and
up a flight of stairs. Many hours rolling around wondering if it is worth it...
Oh, and to our friends back in Washington-dont take good
coffee for granted! The coffee has been rough. We have resorted to sugar and flavored stuff if we don't make it at the boat.
Well, we had some excellent neighbors from down under.
Hamish and Sarah with their 3 year old Jacky were next
door for about 10 days or so. It was great to meet and
get to know these guys! They bought a boat in Florida
and cruised the East coast and on up to Montreal and then
back south this summer. We went to the Southbound
Cruisers Rendevouz with them and got to play with their
son Jack who is a bundle of energy. I would typically get
him all wound up and send him back to his parents. Sorry
guys! It was sad to see them go, but our goal is to work
hard and get our boat in the water and see them in the
Bahamas! Pilates at 9:00!
I think we have got the list down to two weeks or less!
We intend to set out then and start making our way south.
slowly at first getting to know the boat and everything,
but in and out of the ICW down to Florida and then out to the Bahamas. Lots of folks are cruising through here doing just that... It seems like the majority of people we talk to have at least done the Bahamas at least once... I can't wait to get the boat in the water!!!
Let us know what you all are up to and leave Comments so we know who is actually reading this!

Hey guys, I'm reading your blog, keep up the good work, both on your boat and on your blog. Great pics, I wish I worked for an airline sometimes... Bahamas will be such a sweet reward for all your hard work.

Hi, we are all reading it, checking it twice a day for updates. Really glad to hear things are going well, sounds like you landed in a good place with some great people. Ben, really happy to hear you took the time and effort to check the chainplates, loosing you mast can ruin your day! Tell Skip to lighten up, or at least pick on the little dogs. Take care and post more pics!

I'm BACK. You asked for it, I'll be writing blog every day! :0

Since we don't know any better, you're sounding like a real sailboat guru. However, since we don't know if any of these drydock terms are actually real or not (chainplates, snubbers, etc, we're thinking you're just trying to SOUND like you know what you're doing! ha WOW, lot's going on. I couldn't log on for a couple weeks 'cause I couldn't get my password to work. Jess and I sat here for about an hour and got it working.

Anyway, the Skip O Vator is pretty cool. How fun!

What happened to the turbo? Did the frenchman run it w/o oil or something? :( I love the 3 prong brass coathook!! Find me one of those and you'll find fresh coffee waiting for you at each port o call! :)

Your air compressor is still working! Thanks. We actually only used it for the one day. Hope to get some more boards up on the barn soon. I liked the lightwt PVC airhose so much, I just bought one. What an arm saver. thanks

More boat stuff. So what are you having custom made that was worn out. I think you mentioned it was out of wood???

I went waterskiing 2 weeks ago. Hmmm, water was PURRFECT. Not even a ripple. No other boats within 3 miles...literally. Course we could have used one a bit closer when Jess's banana boat ran OUT OF GAS on the way back in the DARK!!!! What kind of cousin do you have Kristen!!>>>>???? Sure added to the story about skiing in the 50 deg weather. IT WAS GREAT!!! :)

Oh well, I ought to close this chapter but I will be following your pics and posts MUCH closer.

Very interested in the boats condition and what you've been doing to it. HOW COOL :) Say hi to Skippy! haha

ltr

Brian and Jess and Tammy and Rufus and Bri and Toy and Ginger and Prince and Zoom and Simon and Sage and Trudie and last but not least your Bronco says HI HAHAHAHA I probably need to change the oil on it since we've been driving it so much... will keep the maintenance up for ya!! :)

I, too am reading your blog - check it a couple of times a week!! Sounds like you guys are getting very antsy to get sailing.. and also sounds like you've been very busy getting your boat in order.
Everything here in Port Angeles is good!! Having quite a bit of rain and lots more predicted for tonight - lots of flooding in the state.
Give Skippy a scratch from me.
Keep up the blogging - love to read about all you are doing.
Love, Cy

Hi Kids!
You should have another packet of mail there by now if our mail nazi let it go out last week.
Kristen, I'm amazed that you are tackling reupholstering the boat cushions... good for you!
News from Blakely: another sighting of "large cat", very reliable eyes, they think not cougar but maybe bobcat.
Love your blog, keep posting. We're going off probably tomorrow for parts and pipes and green food. John's loving his retirement so far, still adjusting to no time schedule.
Talk to you soon, give the dog a bone!

Guys, Janet and I are following along and checking about 1 a week and enjoy each new chapter and appreciate the humor. Glad all is going well, sounds like you have some great people and resources there, just surprised no one mentioned the bucket, they probably thought it was pretty funny to see you stumble to the facilities, just think of what you would do at see when the head fails to function (notice I say when not if).
Take care snd look forward to the next chapter.
